Summer Reading
Avoid the “summer slide” through the Jones Middle Summer Reading
Program! Research suggests that students who read over the summer improve their reading skills, while students who do not read experience a decrease in achievement. The goal of the Jones Summer Reading program is to strengthen our student’s reading skills using choice reading of quality, entertaining titles.
Jones Middle students are required to participate in the Summer Reading Program. All students should read 2 books this summer: one from their grade level book list and one free choice book. Students should also complete the written assignment that will be sent home with the May report card. The written assignment will count as a language arts grade first semester of the new school year and will be due when the students return to school in August.
Titles are available at the public library, local book stores, and online book sellers. Some of the books will also be available in electronic format via the Follett Shelf through Destiny Quest, which students can continue to check out from throughout the summer. Students can access Destiny Quest / Follett Shelf through the student portal.
